So, there has been a little buzz about a program in California to track students there that frequently miss school by giving them a tracking device. School officials were quick to point out that these weren’t anklets and were very secure.
But, that’s not the point… the point is kids that end up having to deal with this will end up thinking that government tracking is normal. That is the real privacy issue; making people comfortable with tracking tech so later on down the road a little more invasive tracking won’t seem as bad.
And, even more irritating are narrow-minded parents who seem to think that this will directly impact their child’s wellbeing in some way. Counseling and adult mentors to encourage kids to learn is a good thing, GPS trackers are just stupid. Parents need to wake up and realize that these days, they are just proving a place to sleep and paying to feed their children for the government… family time almost doesn’t exist anymore and with both parents working most kids spend the majority of their waking lives in the care of the state.
Sad truth that blind society doesn’t see because they’re too busy watching American Idol.
